Do you want to be healed? Could you be your own block to freedom?
Jesus asked, “Do you want to be well?” in John 5. Why, because even when it comes to healing God is not going to override our free will. We need to be on board.
The question is… Do you want to change? Do you want to be healed?
I know it sounds like a ridiculous question. After all who wouldn’t want to be healed. Who would choose to be depressed, sick or unforgiving and angry? Most people don’t even realize they are holding on to those things. But if you ask yourself is there any reason, why I refuse to heal or allow God to move in this area of my life, you might be surprised by the answer. These questions are not as black and white as you might think. Remember Paul said, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” Romans 7:15
When we look deep we may find that we are afraid to heal. Or we’ve gotten so comfortable with the symptoms. Can we handle the freedom? Or perhaps the symptom validates the trauma. The symptom proves how bad the trauma was and if I let go of it, it’s like saying the trauma wasn’t so bad. It’s the same reason we hold on to unforgiveness that also blocks healing.
One time when my client realized that they didn’t want to be healed, that holding on to the symptom validated the trauma, I asked, “Do you want, to have the desire to be healed?” We were able to start there and God did amazing things.
Obviously, this is not the only block to healing. This is just one possible block and we should never presume to know someone’s heart. This is for self-reflection and something to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you about yourself.
